Connect2 scheme opening - Marple

Thought this was worth a heads-up:

Come and celebrate the installation of the new bridge over the River Goyt at Chadkirk Festival near Romiley on Sunday 29 July, from 11.30am-4pm.

The official opening of the bridge will take place at 11.30am, with speeches and a ceremonial ribbon-cutting. The festival will then follow at 12 noon, opening with the famous well dressing.

The bridge is part of a UK-wide lottery-funded project. The Stockport scheme includes a fabulous graded trail from Chadkirk to Marple – a major new link in the development of National Cycle Network Route 55, providing local links for schoolchildren, commuters and residents.

Chadkirk Festival is an annual event held at Chadkirk Chapel and Country Estate. Each year, Chadkirk proudly opens its chapel doors and grounds for this popular festival, commencing with the blessing of St. Chad's Well. The well dressing is an old tradition and is one of the only events of its type outside the Peak District.

This year's festival promises a weekend of live music, shows, falconry, willow-weaving workshops, talks and demonstrations, puppet shows and a fantastic fair of craft and handmade goods. You can pick up everything from locally produced honey and beeswax candles to handmade textiles, jewellery, woodturned gifts, organic fruit, vegetables, cakes and biscuits. There will also be information stalls on local conservation and heritage.

The Friends of Chadkirk Estate will be serving strawberries, cream and afternoon teas in the courtyard café; plus the increasingly popular plant sale in the walled garden.

For further information please visit the Chadkirk Festival website or contact the Tourist Information Centre on 0161 474 4444.

We look forward to joining you there!
